I have to emphasize the point that i really hate cooking and anything that's got to do in the kitchen, but inexplicably, i have been in the kitchen for the past few days doing things i hate. Puzzles me too actually, but all i can say is, i like what i have been doing in the kitchen but i fear that this might only be a passing phase. Well, I'm trying to analyze my weird behavior recently though.. Is it due to pre-exam stress? Or am i threatened by the fact that i am the lousiest cook in the house and i can't stand being sucky at it? Or maybe i wanna prove that i can cook! What is so difficult about cooking anyway, just follow the recipe, and wa-la! But most of the time it always turns out bad the first time. LOL* Anyway, trying to boast my skills together with the execution of my slimming plan, i have successfully cooked 2 delicious tasting soups for the past 2 days. Chinese Herbal Chicken Soup and Lotus Root Pork Ribs Soup. They are easy of course, as i do not attempt difficult stuff since i am just a beginner. And today, yet another achievement, soy sauce chicken marinated since morning. I am so proud of myself now i feel like i'm flying in the sky.. I'm sorry to all those who have to read this, but pls acknowlege me now!! All i want is just a little recognition from everybody... "I CAN COOK LAH." hahaha..
Anyway, tutorial was rather interesting today. The tutor kinda evaluated our class as a whole in terms of our presentation skills since this week marked the end of everybody's presentation. He said there was a serious problem with the way we presented as we were unable to catch the attention of our audiences. He even noted that almost half the time what we were presenting weren't even relevant to the course. But something he mentioned which was really true was that we have a natural tendency in reading from the paper. And i tell you, everybody did that. They practically just read every single word they prepared on this paper they were holding. For me, i typed out a draft, but i tried not to read from it as much as possible. But maybe i was nervous, the teacher commented that i was speaking too quickly and i didn't have much eye contact with the audience. Anyways, what he wanted to point out was that, if we were to go for an interview this way, we would probably get kicked out in the first round. He gave an example of this interview process he had when he was involved in a selection process. The position was a personal assistant for this professor. So this candidate was really good in the entire interview but because of something she did in the end, the professor just decided not to choose her. It was the way she shook the professor's hand, something about the body language my tutor was emphasizing on. And so, he said, never to put our hands in our pocket when we are presenting and blah blah blah.. because the first impression counts. The most important element in presentation, i believe.. is how we communicate to the audience and how we engage the audience in our materials. Of course, humans have the tendency to think about a zillion things at the same time, that's why having the eye contact is important. Anyway, point taken and i am going to improve my public speaking skills.
With that in mind, K told me that she screwed her jap presentation today because she was shaking so badly. She was really disappointed with herself i could see but i have to salute her efforts in trying to memorize one page of japanese words in a night. And although she was shaking the whole way to the extent she had to sit down to continue her presentation, she managed to go through the whole thing without looking at the paper. Congrats! And i'm sure the marks would turn out good.
