Located north of Sydney, Bby and I decided to hop onto a day tour to Port Stephens. It was kinda like a last minute decision, since the two of us wanted to do something together. But as you guys know, i'm gg to be back in s'pore for the entire school break, so there's not much time i can spare for a short getaway with him. Anyways, here goes..
Thinking it would be a pretty hot weather today, since it was yesterday, i decided to put on really casual clothings, absolutely not prepared for what's awaiting us at P.S. We set off here at about 5.45am in the morning, since we have to be at the pickup point at 8.15am. We were early of course, so we headed off for a Mac Breakfast. All's well, just that when were surfaced up from the train station, it was drizzling a little. It's okay we thought, as long as it clears up later. To our disappointment, it just rained even harder. Then we consoled ourselves, no worries, since PS is about 2.5 hrs away, probably it will be sunny over there. Indeed, the sky cleared up over at PS, but there were still dark clouds hovering in the air. Anyway, first stop: SAND DUNE!!! It's so cool!!! It felt like we were at the desert, and to our surprise, there were even camels around. The highlight was that we take 4WD up to the top, whereby we enjoy a great sandboarding session! The wind was blowing really hard, and as usual, there was a slight drizzle, but all of us were prepared for sandboarding. I mean, since we were already there right? And we paid for it man!! There wasn't much tutorial on how to sandboard, and i felt really nervous at first because he brought us to a really steep sand slope. Strangely, sandboarding was as easy as walking. It's like going down a slide really quickly and that's it. The tiring part was that we had to climb up with the heavy sandboard all the way up if we wanted another attempt. BTW, my legs are really aching now. Bby says it's because of a lack of exercise, which is true. LOL* Anyway, it was fun.. and bad, because when we took the 4WD down back to our tour bus, it was raining like cats and dogs. We were soaked to the bone, bloody hell. And we were not prepared for it!! We had no extra tops, no towel to dry ourselves, NOTHING! And the worse thing was that i was wearing shoes, so i was so afraid that it might stink on the bus. But anywayx, we headed off for lunch - buffet on the cruise, how does that sound eh? The next highlight of the tour: The ultimate port stephens cruise experience, dolphin watching!! It took us a while before we spotted the first one, and did you know dolphins are the third smartest mammals in the world? They usually also travel in pairs, so when we spotted the first one, it was like she was with her child. Really neat.
Some Dolphin Facts:
1. Dolphins can dive down to a depth of 300 metres, and can hold their breathe for 10 to 15 min.
2. Dolphins have very good eye-sight but no sense of smell.
3. A baby dolphin is called a calf, a female dolphin is called a cow and a male dolphin is called a bull.
4. This is really interesting i thought. The female dolphins gestation period is 11 to 12 months. During the birth two female dolphins act as midwives & assist with the delivery. When the calf is born, the mother will take it to the surface for its first breath of air. Within 24 hours the baby is suckling milk from its mother, and does so for 12-18 months. The calf matures at the age of six and will live up to 30-40 years. The female dolphin will have a calf every 2-3 years, so 6-8 calves in a lifetime.
Overall it's a thumbs up for this tour, and trust me, if you do decide to go on a tour, go for the best one. They really provide quality assurance and it turned out well. Just that it was a really tiring ride having to sit on the coach for almost 5 hours, and the weather was rather depressing. Anyhow, i'm glad to be home now. Hot bath and tucked under my quilt, nothing beats this feeling.
Will post photos a little later~
